중국정부 당국의 허가를 받고, 대형 제약회사 Sinopharm가 개발한 코로나바이러스 백신이 시험적으로 백만명이 넘는 사람들에게 접종됐다고, 중국에서 가장 큰 제약회사의 회장이 발표했다.
아직까지는 백신접종자들로 부터 부작용이 있었다는 보고는 없었다고, Sinopharm사가 수요일, 제약회사회장 Liu Jingzhen가 social media platform WeChat 에 언급한 내용을 인용하면서 발표한 것이다.
"긴급을 요할시 사용할려고 시작했었는데, 현재 백만명이 넘게 접종을 한것이다. 아직까지 접종한 사람들로 부터 어떤 부작용이 있었다는 보고가 없었고, 단 몇사람이 약간의 두통정도가 있었다"라고 Liu씨는 설명한다.
Liu의 설명에 따르면 이백신은 우선 공사장의 인부들, 외교관들, 그리고 이번 Pandemic동안에 150개국 이상의 여러나라를 다녀왔던 학생들에게 접종을 했었는데, 아직까지 아무도 부작용이 일어나지 않았다는 것이다.
그는 추가설명하기를, 11월 6일에 56,000명이 긴급 백신접종을 받은후 해외로 여행을 떠났었다고 한다.
"예를 들면, 다국적 회사가 하나의 해외지점에 99명이 근무하고 있는데, 그들중에서 81명이 접종을 받았었다. 18명의 직원중 백신접종을 안한 10명의 직원들이 감명됐었고, 접종한 직원들은 무사했다"라고 설명했다.
그후에 별도로 Sinopharm사는 3단계의 시험접종을 10개 나라에 있는 60,000명에게 시험접종 - UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Peru, and Argentina 포함 - 을 했는데, 아직까지 그결과를 보고받지 않았다는게 CNN의 뉴스보도다.
Sinopharm사는 두종류의 백신을 개발했는데, Liu씨는 그중에서 어떤 백신접종에 대한 결과를 설명했는지는 분명치 않다.
중국정부는 절대적으로 필요한 백신 접종을 하도록 백신개발 회사들에게 허가해주고있다. 지난 6월에 중국의 CanSino Biologics 회사가 발표하기를, 중국인민군들 (People's Liberation Army)에게 시험적으로 접종할수있는 특별허가를 승인받았었다.
지난 7월이후로, 중국의 제약회사들은 '비상사태프로그람' 운용계획에 따라, 위험직군에서 근무하는 근로자들에게 시험용 백신접종을 하고 있는 중이다. 안전을 고려하여 한정된 범위내에서 개발된 백신들을 접종시키고 있다고 한다. 그런데 시험접종이 성공적이었다고 한다.
시험용 코로나바이러스 백신들은 중국의 일부지방에도 계속 접종중에 있다고 보도돼고있다. 이소식을 들은 중국인들은 백신을 손에 넣기위해 중국전체에서, 접종이 가능한 가까운곳으로 모여드는 원인까지 발생하고 있다는 것이다.
이러한 현상은, Pfizer사가 수요일 3단계 코로나바이러스(Phase 3 coronavirus vaccine trials) 백신접종효과가 전염을 방지하는데 거의 95%이상의 효과가, 성인들에게서 있었다는 결과를 발표한 직후부터라고 하며, 안전성에서 문제점이 없었다고 한다.
이보다 하루먼저, Moderna사는 개발한 백신의 접종효과는 94.5% effective 였음을 발표했었다. Pfizer 사는 미국의 FDA로 부터, 금요일 부터 백신사용의 승인을 신청 지금 기다리고 있는 중이라고 한다.
미국의 방역대책 본부장, Dr. Anthony Fauci씨는 설명하기를 Pfizer와 Moderna 사의 백신접종 효과는 아주 만족한 결과를 나타냈다고 했다.
"효과는 정말로 대 만족이었다. 우리가 사용하는 다른 예방접종 백신의 효과가 98%정도인점과 거의 같은 수준이라고 했다."
내생각으로는 미국의 두제약회사, Pfizer와 Moderna의 접종효과는 믿음이 가지만, 중국에서 개발하여 현재 중국뿐 아니라 세계여러나라에서 시험접종중에 있다는 백신에 대한 보고는.... 글쎄다. 왜 그동안 조용히 있다가, 미국에서 발표를 하니까 벌써 몇개월 전부터 중국에서는 시험접종을 해왔고, 결과는 성공적이었다고 호들갑을 떨까?
여기서 우리 한국은 어떤 조치를 취할까? 외교적으로 수년간 국제적으로 왕따를 당해 온 우리 한국이 과연 미국으로 부터 백신 수입이 조속한 시일내에 가능할까? 이역시 글쎄다. 어쩌면 중국에 더 기대하고 있을지도 모를 일이다. 정통 외교란 그래서 매우 중요하고, 나라의 경제는 물론이고, 국민건강까지 직간접적으로 연관되여 있다는점을 문재인 정부가 속좀 차렸으면 좋겠다.
No serious adverse effects have been reported from vaccine recipients so far, Sinopharm said Wednesday in an article on
social media platform WeChat, citing Chairman Liu Jingzhen.
"In emergency use, we now have used it on nearly a million people. We have not received any reports of serious adverse reaction, and only a few have some mild symptoms," Liu said.
Liu said the vaccine had been given to Chinese construction workers, diplomats, and students who have gone to more than 150 countries around the world during the pandemic -- and none of them has reported an infection.
He said on November 6 that there were 56,000 people who had received emergency vaccinations and then gone overseas.
"For example, a transnational company has 99 employees in one of its overseas offices, of whom 81 were vaccinated. And later, an outbreak broke out in the office, 10 of the 18 people who were not vaccinated were infected and none of those vaccinated were infected," he said.
He said that separately, Sinopharm had carried out Phase 3 clinical trials involving almost 60,000 people in 10 countries -- including the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Peru, and Argentina. CNN has not seen the results of these trials yet.
Sinopharm has two vaccine candidates. It's unclear which vaccine Liu referred to.
Beijing has granted approval to companies for urgent vaccinations using experimental drugs for months. In June, Chinese company CanSino Biologics announced it had been given special authorization to administer its experimental vaccine to the
People's Liberation Army.Since July, Chinese drug makers have been administering experimental vaccines to people working in "high-risk" professions under the emergency use program, which allows vaccine candidates to be used on a limited scale before their safety and efficacy have been fully proven by clinical trials.
Experimental coronavirus vaccines have even been reportedly offered to the public in parts of China, causing some citizens to
rush across the country to get their hands on a dose.
It comes after Pfizer announced the results of its
Phase 3 coronavirus vaccine trials on Wednesday, which it said was 95% effective in preventing infections -- even in older adults -- and caused no serious safety concerns. A day earlier, Moderna announced that its coronavirus vaccine was
94.5% effective.
Pfizer is expected to seek US Food and Drug Administration emergency use authorization for its vaccine Friday.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top US infectious disease expert, said the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines had shown extraordinary efficacy.
"That is extraordinary," Fauci said. "That is almost to the level of what we see with measles (vaccine), which is 98% effective."
