LONDON—Everyone’s equal under the law — at least when it comes to London’s vigilant parking enforcers, who ticketed former First Lady Hillary Clinton’s car for parking illegally while she was receiving an award last Friday.
The former secretary of state was in London to receive the prestigious Chatham House Prize but her entourage apparently ignored parking regulations near the famous think-tank.
“I’m sure she will understand that we have to be fair to everyone, regardless of their status on the world stage,” Westminster City Council member Daniel Astaire said Wednesday. He said Clinton’s car was parked for “nearly 45 minutes without paying.”
The fine is 40 pounds ($64) if paid within two weeks but double after that.
The Chatham Prize was awarded to Clinton “in recognition of her significant and impressive contribution to international diplomacy as US Secretary of State and her work on behalf of gender equality and opportunities for women and girls,” according to the think-tank’s website.
