B.C주의 질병관리 본부에서 발표한바에 따르면, 이실험의 정확도는 코속에 swab을 넣어 확진판정여부를 판별하는것 보다 훨씬 간편하고 정확해서, 어린이들에게 적합하다고 한다.
요즘 확진여부 검사가 부쩍늘어 고심하던중에 발표되여 불행중 다행으로 여겨지는데, 요즘 캐나다에서는 지난달에 비해 확진자검사요구가 거의 두배로 증가한 상태다. 전문가들은 어린 꼬마들이 어울려 놀면서, 거기서 파생하는 Covid-19 전파여부에 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 세밀히 관찰하고 있는데, 최근에 보고된 바로는 꼬마들의 중간매체 역활이 클수도 있다고 보고 있지만,어린이들은 그증상이 거의 없거나 있다해도 굉장히 미미해서 전문가들이 주의깊에 주시하고 있는중이다.

B.C주의 방역본부는 어린이와 성인들로 부터 채취한후 시험한 결과, Covid-19확진결과를 확인하는데, 코속에 swab을 넣고 하는것과 가글한 소금물에서 확진여부를 판별하는 비율을 거의 같다는것을 발견한 것이다. B.C주는 우선 활용하기위운 가글방법을 우선적으로 어린이들에게 실시한후 점차적으로 성인들에게도 확장사용할 계획이라고 한다. 수집한 샘플들은 분석을 위해 실험실에 보내지는데 이과정에서 건강전문가들이 꼭 참석해서 점검해야 할 필요도 없다는 것이다.
이번 시험은 계속적으로 확진자가 증가상태에 있는 와중에 발견된 방법이다.
캐나다의 Covid-19확진자수는 지난 금요일, 일주일 사이에 평균적으로 849명으로 늘었는데, 공중보건 전문가들이 설명하는바에 따르면 40세 이하의 캐네디언들의 확진자수가 늘어나고 있다는것이다. 이숫자는 지난달에 비해 약 123%증가한 숫자로, 그때는 일주일 평균확진자수가 약 380명 정도였었다.
"전국적으로 확진자수가 늘어나고 있다는것은 이번 전염병이 계속적으로 더 늘어나고 있다는 좌표다. 이러한 상황은 우리 캐나다는 Covid-19방역을 콘트롤 할수있는 능력을 잃어가고 있는 증거라고 본다"라고, 연방 방역대책 본부장, Dr. Theresa Tam씨가 지난 금요일 기자회견에서 설명했었다.
퀘백주에서는 이번주말에 경찰 병력을 대대적으로 동원하고, 사회적 거리두기를 감시하는 요원들을 대폭풀어, 1000개 넘는 바와 식당들을 방문하여, 주인들과 이용객들이 제대로 규칙을 지키고 있는지의 여부를 확인할 계획이라고 밝혔다. "우리는 할수 있는 모든 방법을 강구하여 재발하는 Pandemic의 유행을 막아야 한다"라고 강조했다.
그나마 이간단한 새로운 방법이 확진여부 판정에서 좋은 정확도를 나타내고 있어 불행중 다행으로, 이방법을 개발한 닥터에게 감사의 뜻을 전한다.
"It
is one of the first of its kind around the world," said Dr. Bonnie
Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, at a press conference Thursday.
The
B.C. Centre for Disease Control says the new test is just as accurate
as tests using a nasal swab and is much easier to administer for
children.
The announcement comes at
a time when testing is in high demand: Canada has seen a doubling of
new daily cases in the last month. And while experts are still looking
into the role children play in Covid-19 transmission, a
recent report suggests they can -- and do -- spread the virus, even when they have mild or no symptoms.
"This
is a new saline gargle where you put a little bit of normal saline, so
sterile water, in your mouth and you swish it around a little bit and
you spit it into a little tube and that's an easier way to collect it
for young people," said Dr. Henry.
B.C.
public health officials say they compared test results in both children
and adults and found the rate of Covid-19 detection was very similar
between the nasal swab and the new gargle test.
B.C. is prioritizing children for the new test but hopes to expand to adults in the coming weeks.
While
the sample will still have to be taken to a lab for processing the test
does not have to be administered by a healthcare professional.
Test comes as numbers edge upward
The
country's seven-day average for new Covid-19 cases edged upward to 849
Friday, and public health officials said Canadians under the age of 40
are fueling the surge in cases. It's a 123% increase from a month ago,
when the seven-day average stood at 380.
"The
ongoing increase in the national daily case counts is an indicator of
accelerated epidemic growth," Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public
health officer, said during a news conference Friday. "This situation
increases the likelihood that we lose the ability to keep Covid-19 at
manageable levels."
Canada's
positivity rate remains at 1.4% as testing ramps up, but public health
officials are worried cases are rising too quickly to adequately test,
contact trace and isolate positive cases.
"The
other indicators to really watch out for are the hospitalizations and
ICUs, those are low at the moment, but again if there's any signals that
things are increasing it's another indicator that we might be going in
the wrong direction,' said Dr. Tam.
Canadian
provincial leaders say they are fed up with young people recklessly
gathering at restaurants, bars, private homes and even parks and
beaches.
"Every week we see images
in bars, there's dance floors that are full, all sorts of things are
happening in bars," said Genevieve Guilbault, Quebec's minister of
public safety during a press conference Friday in Quebec City.
Quebec
announced a sweeping police operation for this weekend saying law
enforcement officials would visit more than 1,000 bars and restaurants
to make sure owners and patrons are complying with health regulations.
"We have to use every tool and every gesture at our disposal to avoid a second wave of Covid in Quebec," added Guilbault.
