지금 지구상에서 가장 큰 부자는 Amazon의 창시자, Jeff Bezos로 알고 있다. 얼마전까지만 해도 제일가는 부자는 Microsoft사의 Bill Gates와 그의 아내 Melinda Gates였었다.
몇년전 Jeff Bezos는 불행(?)하게도 그의 아내 MacKenzie Scott와 이혼하면서, 위자료 차원에서, Jeff Bezos가 주인으로 있는 Amazon사의 주식, 1/4을 받았었다는 뉴스는 당시 특종으로 보도 돼기도 했었다.
지난해 이혼의 상처를 당했음에도, 그녀는 지구촌에서 18번째로 부자의 명단에 이름이 올려져 있다. 재산은 자그만치 6백억 7천만 달러라고 Bloomberg Billionaires Index사가 밝힌바 있다.
재산이 계속해서 불어나는 이유는 이번 Coronavirus Pandemic으로 Amazon의 스탁이 계속 올라 이와같이 재산이 불어났다고 한다. 이금액은 지금 이시간에도 계속 잘 자라고 있다는 뜻이다.
얼마전 대한민국 국회에서 Covid-19 Pandemic 으로, 추갱예산을 통과 시킬때의 금액이 5조원 정도 됐던 것으로 기억한다. 개인적으로 이렇게 어마어마한 금액을 소유한다는것은 축복이자, 자칫 잘못하면 재앙일수도 있다는 생각이다.
몇년전에 골프황제가 골픟선수로서는 처음으로 10억달러의 재산을 만들었다는 뉴스를 본 기억도있다.
지난해에 이혼한 상처가 채아물기도 전에 그녀는 그녀가 소유한 재산을 도움이 필요한 사람들과 재단에 기부하기 시작하면서, 또다시 세상의 주목을 받게 됐다.
"내가 소유한 재산은 잠시 살아있는 동안에 Management를 하라는 창조주의 뜻을 이행하는것일뿐이다"라는 어느 누군가 한 얘기가 생각난다. 우리 인간의 소유욕은 그끝이 없다고 하겠다. 결국 이세상을 하직 할때는 어느 누구나 똑같이 수의한벌 얻어입고, 창조주곁으로 가는 것일뿐임을 알면서도 소유한것을 서로 나누는 기부행동을 하는 사람에 대한 뉴스를 보는것은 매우 드물다.
MacKenzie Scott가 어제 화요일에 금년들어 두번째로 큰 기부한 내용이 언론에 공개됐다. 384개의 단체에 42억 2천만 달러(5조2천억원)다. 이기부금은 그녀의 전새산을 사회에 기부하겠다는 계획의 일부분일 뿐이다. 이번 기부금 발표는 10억7천만 달러(한화 2조2천억원)를 116개 자선단체에 기부한지 4개월만에 이루어진 기부천사의 행동이었다. 이금액에는 흑인들이 주로 다니는 대학( HBCUs)에 지난 7월에 기부했던 금액도 포함되여 있다고한다.
"이번 전염병은 우리 미국인들의 삶은 매우 어렵게 했습니다. 경제적 손실과 특히 여성들의 건강과 유색인종, 가난한 사람들에게 치명적인 영향을 줬습니다."라고 설명했다. 다른 많은 억만장자들도 기부를 하는데 많은 영향을 줬다고 한다.

이시간에 한국의 정치꾼들은 뭘 작당하고 있을까? Covid-19 Pandemic으로 많은 국민들이 신음하고 있는데도, 백신확보에 대한 확실한 정부대책은 밝혀지지 않고, 내편이 아니라는 이유때문에 일잘하고있는 검찰총장, 윤석열을 찍어내기위한 꼼수 부리기에 올인하고 있다. 참많이 비교된다.
더 불행한것은, 최경주 PGA선수 출신의 기부 행동을 법적으로 뒷받침 해주는 조치를 정치꾼들이 해주어야 하는데, 그런데는 관심도 없고, 거꾸로 세금포탈 할려는 위선적인 행동이라고 몰아부쳐 기부행동을 막아 버렸다. 최경주 선수가, 자기네들 처럼 꼼수를 쓸수 있다고? 최경주 선수가 미국생활을 오래 하면서, 그들의 아름다운 기부행위를 보면서 배우고, 체험한것을 조국에 돌아와 실천하는 아름다운 행위를 이렇게 부셔버린 정치꾼들아 정신차리고... 제2, 제3의 아름다운 기부자들이 맘놓고 기부할수 있는 Foundation을 만들도록 이아침에 정신좀 차려라.
The announcement comes just four months after Scott
donated $1.7 billion to 116 organizations, including
four historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), in July. The latest round of philanthropic gifts total more than $4.16 billion donated by Scott to organizations nationwide in the past four months.
"The pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,"
Scott wrote in a Medium post. "Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color, and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires."
Scott's post included a list of the hundreds of organizations that received funds, including financial service providers for under-resourced communities, education for historically marginalized and underserved individuals, civil rights advocacy groups and legal defense funds that take on institutional discrimination.
Scott, who is a philanthropist and author as well as the ex-wife of
Amazon (AMZN)founder Jeff Bezos, noted that her team examined more than 6,490 organizations to determine which groups would receive the donations following her decision to accelerate the pace of her giving this year.
The process combined data with the "suggestions and perspectives of field experts, funders and non-profit leader and volunteers with decades of experience."
In the latest round of giving, Scott donated $40 million to Morgan State University, an HBCU in Baltimore. The gift is the largest single private donation in the university's history, and roughly doubles the school's endowment.
Scott gave $50 million to Prairie View A&M University in Texas — the school's largest donation ever, and nearly doubling its endowment, according to the university.
Other HBCUs including Claflin, Virginia State and Dillard University also received donations.

tend to be smaller in comparison to other institutions due to a history of inequitable funding.
Other organizations on the list included the local chapters of Goodwill, Meals on Wheels, YMCA and United Way; the NAACP; Global Fund for Women; and ACE (Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs), which provides affordable loans to underserved small businesses.
"We do this research and deeper diligence not only to identify organizations with high potential for impact, but also to pave the way for unsolicited and unexpected gifts given with full trust and no strings attached," Scott said in the post. "Because our research is data-driven and rigorous, our giving process can be human and soft."
Scott is the world's 18th-richest person with a net worth of $60.7 billion,
according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Her's is a fortune that has soared as
Amazon's (AMZN) stock has surged in the pandemic. Scott received a
quarter of Bezos' Amazon shares following their 2019 divorce.
Last year, Scott committed to the
Giving Pledge initiative. Launched by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates, the program encourages the world's richest people to donate a large portion of their fortunes to charitable causes.
