커다란 비단구렁이가 암컷 차지하려고 싸우다 부엌천장에서 낙하라니, . 요즘 호주는 Mating 계절이란다.

 

오스트랄리아는 희귀한 생명체가 다른 대륙에 비해서 많이 서식하는것 같다는 생각이다. 캉가루, 키위 등등... 이번에는 엄청나게 큰 파이손 뱀들이 집안의 부엌천장에서 싸우다 그무게에 천장이 견디지 못하고 부서지면서 부엌바닥으로 떨어져 집안 식구들을 기절초풍케 했다는 뉴스다.

몇년전 남미 페루에 있는 아마존강 상류지역을 탐방할때, 밀림속에서 살고 있는 원주민 한가족을 방문했었다. 그곳에서 서식하고있는 커다란 뱀, Anaconda를 애완용으로 키우고 있는 광경을 봤는데, Cage에서 사랑하는 개를 만지듯이 꺼내더니, 시아버지와 며느리가 머리쪽과 꼬리 끝부분을 잡고 펼쳐서 보여주는게 너무도 징그러웠지만, 신기하기도 했었다.  웬만해서는 놀라지 않는 Lunar가 그크기에 약간은 움추러드럿던 순간을 나는 지금도 기억하고 있다.  시아버지 되는 분이 설명 하기를, 아나콘다는 물속에서 서식하며, 반대로 Boa는 육지에서 주로 서식하는 파충류라고 했었던 기억이있다.

오스트랄리아의 Brisbane 거주하는 한남자가 월요일 자기집 부엌천장에서 바닥에 떨어져 있는 두마리의 커다란 뱀을 발견했는데, 그중 한마리는 길이가 2.9미터였고, 다른 비단 구렁이는 2.5미터였다고 한다.  뱀제거전문인, Steven Brown에 연락해서 제거했다.

"이 두마리의 비단 구렁이는 내가 지금까지 봤던 뱀중에서 가장 크고 퉁퉁하게 살쪘던 뱀들이었고, 또한 근육도 잘 발달되여 있었다"라고 CNN에서 상황설명도 했었다. 뱀제거 전문인, Brown씨는 Facebook에 뱀의 사진을 올리고 그크기에 놀랐었다고 했다.

그는 페이스북에서 설명하기를 그에게 협조를 요청한 사람은 두마리의 커다란, 주로 해안가에서 서식하는 비단구렁이를, 퇴근하고 집에 도착하면서 발견 했었다고 한다. "부엌천장에서 떨어져 있던 뱀을 실제로 보기 전까지는 반신반의 했었다"라고 설명한다. 그가 뱀을 제거하기위해 도착해서 발견한 뱀 한마리는 현관문 쪽에 있었고, 다른 한마리는 안방에서 어슬렁 거리고 있었다고 한다.

뱀제거 전문가 Brown씨의 설명에 따르면 지금이 뱀들에게는 Mating Season인데, 이들 수컷뱀들은 멀지않은곳에있는, 아마도 집천장 아니면 집주변에 있었을 것으로 예상되는 암컷을 차지하기위해 싸우다 일어난 사고 같다고 설명한다.

"내가 직접 집안의 천장을 살펴볼수는 없었다. 왜냐면 지붕과 천장사이에 사람이 들어갈만한 공간이 없었기 때문이었다."라고, 겨울동안에는 건조하고 따듯한 곳에서 발견되는것은 매우 흔한 일이다라고 설명을 했다.  궁금한것은 어떻게 지붕까지 뱀이 올라갔을까 였다. 비단 구렁이는 다행히도 독이 없고, 공격적이지 않는 특성이 있다고 한다.

"이비단 구렁이는 위협을 느끼지 않는한 상대방 공격을 하지 않는다고 한다. 집에서 제거된 뱀은 사건이 난 곳으로 부터 약 1킬로 떨어져 있는 숲속으로 옮겨져 다시 야생으로 되돌려 보냈다고 한다.  오스트랄리아에서, 뱀을 집안에서 발견하는것은 매우 드문일이라고 한다.

지난달에는, North Queensland거주하는 한여인이 집안 변소에서 볼일을 보고  변기의 물을 흘러내리려 하는데 잘 흘러가지않아 물통을 들여다 보다 깜짝 놀랐었는데, 그곳에는 4마리의 뱀들이 서로 엉켜 있었던것을 발견한 것이다.  

Cane농장에서 생활하는 25세의 Sofie Pearson이 CNN자매 방송국 7News 와 인터뷰에서 변소에서 볼일보고, 물을 내리려 버튼을 눌렀는데 물이 내려가지 않았었다고 설명했었다.

"나는 뭔가 잘못된거지? 이상하게 생각하면서 물통 뚜겅을 열어서 앝을 들여다 보면서, 뱀들을 보고 깜짝 놀랐었다"라고 당시를 설명해 주었었다.  그곳에는 흔히 볼수있는 갈색나무뱀을 봤었다. 가장큰것은 1미터까지 자란다고 방송사는 보도했었다.

참 특이한것은, 이곳 사람들, 특히 이상황에 처한 여성들이, 한반도에 있는 그어느나라 여성들처럼 호들갑을 떨지 않고, 차분히 대처하는 대범함을 보여주고 있다는점이다. 애교를 떠는건지 내숭을 떠는건지?.... 구별은 하면서 현실을 직시하고 차분히 대처하는 의연함을 생활화 하는것 보고 싶다는 아쉬움이다.

(CNN)A man in Brisbane, Australia, returned home to find two huge snakes had fallen through his kitchen ceiling on Monday.

The carpet pythons measured around 2.9 meters (9.5 feet) and 2.5 meters (8.2 feet), according to snake catcher Steven Brown, of Brisbane North Snake Catchers and Relocation, who removed them from the property.

"Both these snakes were two of the fattest snakes I've seen, as in the amount of muscle they had," Brown told CNN, adding that they were "very well fed."

The snake catcher posted the shocking find on Facebook, including a number of incredible photos.

In the post, Brown revealed that his customer had found two very large coastal carpet pythons in his house when he got home.

"Wasnt till I got there that I found they had come crashing through the customers ceiling in the kitchen (sic)," he wrote.

When Brown arrived, he found one of the snakes next to the front door and the other in a bedroom, he said.

The snakes crashed through a ceiling.

The snake catcher told CNN that it is breeding season for the snakes and it is likely the two males were fighting over a nearby female, who could have been in the roof or somewhere around the house.

"I was unable to check (the) roof cavity as there was no crawl space between (the) roof and ceiling," said Brown, who said it is common to find the snakes in warm, dry roof cavities in the cooler winter months.

Carpet pythons are non-venomous and not aggressive if left alone, said Brown.

"No snake wants to hurt anyone," he added, but they will defend themselves if threatened.

The creatures were relocated 1 kilometer (about 0.6 miles) away from the man's house, in a state forest, Brown said.

Snakes are not uncommon sightings in people's homes in Australia.

Australian woman finds four snakes inside her blocked toilet tank

Last month, a woman in North Queensland who had difficulty flushing her toilet was shocked to find four snakes coiled up inside the cistern.

Sofie Pearson, 25, who lives on a cane farm, told CNN affiliate 7News that, when she went to her bathroom, she had to push down hard on the button to get the toilet to flush.

"I was a bit confused," she told 7News. "So I figured I'd just pull the top off and check what the issue was."

What she discovered were four common tree snakes, the largest of which was 3.2 feet (1 meter) long, 7News reported.
