현지 언론, Toronto Star는 유현진의 Blue Jay 입단에, 위험 도사린 계산이라고 평했고, 다른 언론,CP24는 Starting Picthing 선수로 환영 하는 분위기다. 한국언론은 8천만달러(929억 4천만원)에 4년간 계약됐다고 돈부터 강조했다. 언론사마다 입단은 확인 하면서도 그내용에는 다소 차이가 있었다.

그러면서 이곳 언론은 어젯밤(일요일,12월22일) 이름을 밝히지 않는 조건으로, 크리스마스가 지난후의 몸상태를 확인후까지 현재 발표를 보류하고 있는 상태라고 전하고 있었다.

금년도에 유현진의 활약은 매우 돋보였었다. 그러나 그전해에는 몸의 컨디션이 않좋아, 결장하는 경우도 있었고, 치료를 위해 아예 명단에서 빠지기도 했었지만, 어려운 난관을 이기고, 금년의 실적은 아주 훌륭했었다.

금년시즌의 실적을 보면, 163의 스트라이크 아웃을 시켰었고, 1822/3 이닝을 던지는중 오직 24개의 4볼로 진출시켰을뿐, 성적이 무척 향상되여, Cy Young 수여 경쟁에서 뉴욕 Mets의 오른팔 투수 Jacob deGrom에 뒤이어 2등에 뽑히는 기염을 토했었다. 지난 7년동안의 미야구에서 활동하는 동안, 많은 시련이 있었지만, 잘 버티어 내고, 신년도 부터는 토론토에서 Blue Jays를 위해 뛰면서, 교민들과의 접촉도 빈번할것으로 기대해 본다.

유선수의 4년 계약동안, 그의 맹활약을 기대하면서 적극 응원한다.

우울한 한국의 정치판을 보면서 정신적 고통이 많았는데, 유현진 선수가 교민들의 우울한 심정을 많이 보상해 줄것으로 크게 기대하면서, 실력을 기초로한 행운이 늘 함께 하길빈다.

Hyun-Jin Ryu is headed north of the border to a Toronto Blue Jays team in dire need of starting pitching.
One that was willing to pay for it, too.
Ryu and the Blue Jays agreed to an $80 million, four-year contract, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. The person spoke late Sunday night on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a physical after Christmas and had not been announced.
Ryu was 14-5 with a major league-best 2.32 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He started for the National League in his first All-Star Game and finished second in Cy Young Award voting to New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom.

The Blue Jays had been talking for months about making a “significant” upgrade to the starting rotation. They made it happen late Sunday night by signing Cy Young finalist Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Ryu became the biggest addition of Ross Atkins’ tenure as general manager by agreeing to a four-year contract worth $80 million (all dollars U.S.). The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and has since been confirmed by the Star. It will not become official until Ryu passes a physical.

The 32-year-old Ryu is coming off a season in which he went 14-5 with a National-League best 2.32 ERA across 29 starts. He struck out 163 and walked just 24 over 1822/3 innings while being named to the all-star team for the first time in his six-year career. The Korean finished second Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom in voting for the Cy Young award.

Ryu immediately becomes Toronto’s top starter and joins a rotation that also features the recently signed Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson, Matt Shoemaker and then a collection of younger hurlers contending for the final spot — including Trent Thornton, Ryan Borucki and Shun Yamaguchi. The rotation still isn’t a strength, but it’s a lot deeper and more experienced than it was a few short weeks ago.
