오늘 11시에 Queens Park Rotunda 에서 시작된, 제 26대 온타리오 수상과 관련장관들의 임명과 서약식이 간촐하게 진행됐었다. 지난번 자유당 정부때보다, 훨씬 적어진 Cabinet 규모에서, 그가 선거운동기간동안에 약속했던, 작은정부를 행동으로 보여주는 순간으로 이해됐다.
수상 Doug Ford를 포함한 임명된 장관들은 주총독이 지켜보는 가운데, 맡겨진 직책을 충실히 이행하겠다고 서약을 하고, 임명장에 서명하고, 그위에 총독이 서명하는 Swearing-in 의식이 진행됐었다.
새로 임명된 수상과 각료들은 똑같은 format에 맞추어, 이름만 바꾸어서 선서를 다음과 같이했다.
"나, Raymond Cho는 나의 모든 지식과 지혜를 동원해서, 나에게 맡겨진 OOO장관직을 충실히 이행할것을 엄숙히 선서 합니다. 고로 신이시여 도와 주소서" 라고.
이번 보수당 대승으로, 한인사회에서는 한인 이민역사 50여년만에 2명의 MPP가 탄생했었다. Raymon Cho(조성준), Stan Cho.
주의원이자, 이번에 장관직을 맡은 조성준씨는, 주의원이 되기전에는 토론토시의회 의원으로 봉직하면서, 최장수 시의원의 기록(?) 보유자 이기도 하다. Stan Cho는 젊은 청년으로, 앞으로 많이 기대된다.
이중에서 Raymond Cho가 Seniors and Accessibility장관직에 임명되는 경사가 있었다. 그는 2년전 보궐선거에서 당선되여 한인사회의 Icon이 됐었다. 그분이 장관직을 무사히 수행하기를 진심으로 기원해 드린다.
Doug Ford 수상은, 지난번 3월달 당수선거시, 경쟁자였던 Christine Elliott을 부수상겸, 보건복지부장관에 임명하는 용단을 내리기도 했다. 보기가 무척 좋아 보였다.
온타리오의 보수당 정부가 앞으로 맡겨진 4년간(법적으로는 5년) 온주민들의 복지와 경제적 성장을 잘 이끌어 이다음 선거시 재선되었으면 하는 마음이다.
우선 그의 공약의 근간은 세금을 함부로 쓰지않고, 절약하여 납세자에게 직접 되돌려주는, 전임 자유당 정부에서 납세자들의 세금을 너무도 많이 낭비하여 적자예산을 세워 운영했던, 실패한 정책을 과감하게 수정하여 온주민들에게 되돌려주겠다는 공약이 주효 했었다. 특히 하늘높게 치솟는 개스세금중 10센트/리터를 되돌려주겠다는 점과, 또 다른 기대는, Convenience Store에서 Beer, Wine판매를 허가하겠다고 약속했었는데, 이이슈는 우리 한인들이 아직도 많이 종사하고 있는 업종의 숨통을 트이게 해줄것으로 기대가 무척많이 된다.
현재 이시간에 Queens Park 앞의 공원에서는 1,000여명이 넘는 환영객들이 모여 같이 경축하고 있다.

Doug Ford, Ontario’s new Progressive
Conservative premier, named 20 ministers to his cabinet before he was
sworn in on Friday on the steps at Queen’s Park..
Mr.
Ford won power earlier this month with a campaign that was focused
heavily on cutting taxes, curtailing government spending and helping the
“little guy” at the expense of what he called the province’s elites.
His swearing-in ends 15 years of Liberal rule in Ontario and signals a
major shift in the province’s politics.
Mr.
Ford has named his former rival for the PC party leadership, Christine
Elliott, as his deputy premier and minister of health. Caroline
Mulroney, who also sought the Tory leadership earlier this year, has
been named Attorney-General and minister responsible for francophone
affairs.
Vic
Fedeli was named finance minister, a key role in Mr. Ford’s government
as the new premier has promised to slash income taxes, cancel the
province’s cap-and-trade system on carbon emissions and return Ontario
to a budget surplus by the end of his four-year mandate. Mr. Fedeli is
the former mayor of North Bay and was the PC Party’s interim leader
after Patrick Brown resigned in January amid allegations of sexual
misconduct.
Mr. Ford’s cabinet is leaner than that of outgoing Premier Kathleen Wynne, which had 28 ministers including Ms. Wynne.
“I
promised the people that I would make our great province the best place
in North America when it comes to business, creating jobs and raising a
family. And I am going to keep my promise,” Mr. Ford said in a
statement before his swearing-in by Ontario’s lieutenant governor,
Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
