내가 유명인사였다면, Cuba진출역설에 귀기울였을텐데....미국-큐바 외교 복원을 보면서.

요즘 고국의 KBS 뉴스에 의하면, 미국-큐바간에 단절돼왔던, 외교복원이 50년만에 재개됐다는 소식과, 그문제점을 시리즈로 방영하면서, 한국정부와 기업들이 할수 있는 내용에 대한 해설을 곁들인 내용인데,  2005년도에 큐바여행을 갔을때 느꼈던 점을,  한국을 세계에 알리는 민간단체가 운영하는 VANK에, 고국의 기업들이 중남미에 진출하는데 큐바가 전진기지가 될수 있을 것이라는 내용의 기고를 한바 있었는데, 그 컬럼이 채택되여 VANK 웹싸이트에 등재됐던 기억이 떠올랐었다.

그내용은 큐바를 한국이 잘 이용한다면, 큐바뿐만이 아니고, 중남미 진출에 큐바는 교두보 역활을 할수 있는 국가로 보였다는 내용으로, 2008년도에 나의 블로그에 다시 올려놨었다.

나의 생각으로는 이시점에서 큐바에 진출 할려는 고국의 기업들은 교두보를 확보할수 있는 절호의 기회를 이미 잃었거나, 늦은감이 있지 아닌가라고 이해하고 싶다.  그래도 여전히 Room은 있는것으로 이해 되기에 아직도 기회는 있다고 생각한다.

나는 2000년대 초부터 매년 추운 겨울철이면 Cuba의 최고 휴양지, Varadero에 가서 짧은 기간이지만 겨울을 보낸다.  정부가 주도권을 잡고, 큐바당국과 외교관계를 Open하고, 그뒤를 이어 기업들이 진출할수 있는 교두보를 만들어 주는 역활을 해준다면, 금상첨화가 될것 같다.

2010여년까지만 해도, 어떤 경로를 통해서 들어왔는지는 잘 모르겠으나 현대, 기아 자동차들,특히 버스들이,  큐바의 수도 하바나를 비롯한 각도시의 도로를 달리는것을 보면서, 굉장히 자랑스러웠었다.  지금은 큐바의 거리를 달리는 차량들의 대부분이 중국산 차량들이 거의 독점하다시피 변해 버렸다.

중국의 약진이 눈부시게 눈에 띈다.  2012년도에 아프리카, 애티오피아 여행을 한달간 하면서, 보고 느낀점은, 그곳에서도 중국의 진출은 상상을 초월할 정도로, 도로건설, Plant건설, Infrastructure를 포함한 모든면에서, 일본을 제치고,  발판을 다지고 있음을 눈여겨 보았었다.
여행 Guide, Yohaness의 설명에 의하면, 아프리카 전역을 상대로 중국이 많은 원조를 앞세워, Beachhead를 확보하고 있다고 했었다.

2009년도에 큐바방문시, 휴양지를 나와 "Matanzas" 도시를 방문했을때, 일단의 젊은 동양청년들을 만났었다.  그들과 대화를 나누면서, 이들이 스페인어를 공부하기위해 중국정부가 선발하여 국비로 2년 코스의 언어연수를 하고 있는 학생들임을 알고,  그내용을 나의 블로그에 언급한바도 있었다.

내용은 한국정부와 기업들도, 영어를 사용하는 인구보다 더 많은 South American들이 스페인어를 국어로 사용하기 때문에, 언어정책을 영어에서 이제는 스페인어도 병행해서 미래를 준비하여야만, 남미 공략을 선점해야만 많은 이득을 얻을수 있을것이라는 것이었다.  남미를 여행해본 사람은 다 느꼈을테지만, 영어가 전연 통하지 않는곳이 남미이다.

내가 한마디 했을때, 여론과 미디아의 관심을 받을수 있는 위치에 있지 않은점이 무척 아쉽다.

Cuba could be a Korea's Beachhead to Caribbean

Hi, it's Paul Lee. As you may know Cuba is one of two communist countries secluded from the global organization, the other one is, of course, North Korea. I just got home there, Varodera, Cuba, taking 10 days winter vacation fleeing the severe Canadian winter with snow. The Cuban government has never allowed their people to travel out of Cuba since Fidel Castro's regime in power that was late 1950. Until that revolution happened, Cuba was a kind of free country under western hemisphere, especially U.S. All the resorts opened to foreigners nowadays were built at that time. The living standard of people there were so poor which seems like never got better since revolution.

But the most of people I met kept friendly with smiling that I believed because of hot tropical weather through whole year round. Cutting the relationship with western countries meant Cuban economy heading backward since that forced Castro's regime open the resorts area to foreign tourists later to feed their people, I believe. Still horse driven bogies are a major transportation at the most of cities in Cuba including Havana, capital city. Taxis, trucks, buses are very old that spews black smoke like chimney nobody seems like concerning of.

Sometimes I saw new cars, mini vans from Hyundai, Kia Co. of Korea, my homeland. Also I met a few descendants of Koreans who have lived there more than 3 generations who were hardly speaking Koreans. I have told them about myself in exchange information with them. But people there, from my view, didn't make any complaint of regime hardly which I believe that during the last 50 yrs they haven't seen out of Cuba that impossible for them to compare. Instead they have been brain washed with regime's propagandas only. And regime's power in control seems all most over since the top leader is weakened with old age. Then I believe whoever in power has to open their door to the world that may make Cuban people open their eyes widely to see and feel.

Seeing these kind of tendency in Cuba, Koreans can use Cuba as a vanguard to expand relationship with Caribbean countries, especially on economy, I mean, international trade. Cars I saw there made me feel competency a lot. Telecommunication industry with cell phones will be a major item for Korean manufacturers to be thought. Of course I believe big companies of Korea would have been in ready for their business. Still I want to inform these kinds of phenomenon in Cuba to Koreans who may have intention there. I really enjoyed my vacation playing golf, sunbathing, touring cities etc. The birds sat on bed made by room-maid who used bath towels were so impressive. Many thanks.

오늘 갑자기 거의 16년전에 기고했던 글을 다시 여기에 옮겨논 이유는 간단하다. 어제 일요일 아침에 삼성의 이건희 회장님께서 긴기간동안 와병중에 계시다가, 하늘 나라, 영원의 나라로 여행을 떠나셨는데, 고국의 언론을 비롯한 많은 국민들이 애도의 조의를 표하는것을 언론을 통해 봤었다.

오늘 아침뉴스에는 이회장님이 떠나시면서, 후손인 이재용 삼성 부회장을 비롯한 자손들에게 많은 재산을 상속해 주셨는데,  당장에 내야할 상속세가 적게는 10조원, 많게는 이보다 훨씬 더 많을 것이라는 걱정섞인 보도였던것이다.  전문가들의 분석에 따르면, 당장에 그렇게 많은 상속세를 내기위해 소유하고 있는 주식을 팔아야 하는데, 그럴경우, 팔게되는 주식을 구입하는 사람이 외국인, 특히 중국기업이 구입하게 될 확율이 높아, 이경우, 앞으로 삼성의 운영권에도 많은 영향을 미칠것이라는 염려 기사를 봤었다.

내가 알기로는 미국이나 캐나다를 비롯한 많은 서구나라에서는 상속세가 거의 없는것으로 알고있다. 그만큼 기업의 역활이 나라의 경제활동에 많은 도움을 주고 있다는데 대한 답례가 아닐까?라는 이해를 하게 됐다.  왜 우리 한국의 세법은 기업에 대한 배격을 분명히 하는 내용의 악법을 계속 고집하고 있는지?가 너무도 궁금해서다.  전문가들의 설명에 의하면 중소기업도 똑같은 처지에 고민이 많아, 어떤 기업인들은 다 팔아서 처분하고 이민을 떠난다는 슬픈 얘기도 전해줬었다.

이렇게 비합리적인 상속세는 제발 하루속히 바꾸어, 기업들이 조국에서 맘놓고 맘껏 기업활동을 할수 있도록 좋은 나라를 만들도록 도와 주기를 바란다. 기업이 잘돼야 Job creation이 많이 발생하는 간단한 원리를 생활화 할수있었으면 하는 바램이 간절해서다.

몇년전 고국을 방문 했을때, 느꼈던 점을, 고국을 세계 만방에 알리는 웹싸인트 VANK에 기고했던 글입니다. 보도에 의하면 VANK웹이 국가에서 삭감한 예산 문제로 곤란에 처하고 있다기에, 여기에 옮겨 보관 하고져 함입니다.

Happy New Year! My name is Paul Hankyun Lee, though my original is Hankyun Lee, but living here in Canada adapting an English name is easier for being remembered by people and another reason I took Paul is that through my life I have wished to live like the Paul, one of desciples of Jesus in the bible. As you guess, I am a Korean-Canadian who's been living here in Toronto almost 30 years as of Jan. 2005, holding Canadian citizenship. And I have retired since 2 years ago from my own business in retail industry. Currently I have 2 regular e-mail friends. And I got home just 3 weeks ago from motherland Korea staying 45 days. Of course during that staying I also traveled Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia and China on top of every corner of Korean peninsula travelled with 3 couples of my friends.

The paying system at tour areas should be changed not to give a bad impression.

Here are some points I experienced with good feeling and bad feelings too. The good points were so many High ways have been constructed in the short period of time which can be cheered by tourists and Koreans abreast. The bad point was that too many times of entrance fees being collected at any tour areas. For example, I was Seorak mountain (Seoraksan) with my friends mentioned above. We paid 4 times of it to tour, first at the parking lot, then National Park entrance fee, then temple entrance fee, then again lifting fee of cable car to a peak. Also each of fees was so expensive that could give the tourists a bad impression on visiting Korea.

Nobody can understand that 4 times of fees to see a resort of a mountain. I paid only one time entrance fee at the Ocean park in Hong Kong which has two parks in it with huge facilities to see and free ridings including cable cars that runs over 15 minutes that was so long compared with two minutes ride on Seorak mountain (Seoraksan). The most of resorts I have been in Korea were same on collecting fees. This should be changed to one time collecting right away, otherwise foreign travelers won't suggest any Korean tours to their friends after tour in Korea. I am sorry I couldn't say good feeling a lot. But I love my home country. Since I saw those as a outsider without any prejudice on it, it would be helpful for you to judge it.
