요즘 홍콩이 깊은 사회적 소요에 빠져있다. 지난 2일간은,거리에서 벌려오던 데모데가 홍콩 국제공항으로 몰려가 2일간 공항이 All stop되는, 전에 없던 혼란이 있었다. 지금은 다 물러갔지만, 수십명의 데모데원들은 아직도 공항에서 시위를 하고 있다고 한다.
홍콩밖의 세상사람들은, 홍콩인들( Hong Kong) 은, 시민들이 자유를 누린다는 근본원리를 보장 받게 되는지의 여부가 지금 바람앞의 등불처럼 위태로움을 넘어, 장래 자유가 보장될수 있을지의 여부에 대해 아무런 영향을 줄수 없게 되는것 같다.
설명할 필요도 없이, 7백만명의 홍콩인들이 절규하면서 요구하는 불만은, 깊이 따져보면 홍콩윗쪽의 중국정부가 홍콩밖에 세상사람들에게 어떤 메세지를 행동으로 보여줄지에 대한, 매우 엄중한 교훈을 세상사람 모두에게 알려주는 시발점이 될것으로 이해된다.
트럼프 대통령은 화요일 그가 내보낸 트윗터 메세지에서, 미국의 정보기관에서 입수한 정보에 의하면,중국정부는 군대를 동원하여 홍콩접경지역에 주둔시키고있다고 했다. 모든 홍콩인들이 조용히 그리고 안전하기를 지켜볼것이다. 중국정부는 이미 일부군부대를 접경지역에 배치 했다 라고 전하면서, 사태가 심각해짐을 예의주시하고 있다고 했다.
홍콩인들의 자유보장과 범죄인도 입법반대를 성취하기위한 데모데에 대한 중국정부의 움직임을, 아마도 북한의 김정은 Regime이 매우 주의깊에 경청하고 있을것으로 이해된다. 앞으로 문재인 정부에 대한 김정은 집단이 취할 표본이 될수도 있다고 이해된다.
The outside world can do little to assure the future of freedom in Hong Kong beyond making the case that preserving the principles of liberty are at stake. Nevertheless, the plight of that territory’s more than 7 million souls can teach us an important lesson about what China has in mind for the rest of the world. It is not good.
For starters, the continuing protests speak volumes
about China’s commitment to “one country two systems.” When the British
transferred sovereignty over Hong Kong to China in 1997, Beijing agreed
to this arrangement. It guaranteed that Hong Kong would be allowed to maintain its own governance and economic system.
The
Hong Kong system—one of great economic freedom--has produced tremendous
economic success. But economic freedom is no more popular than
political freedom among the Chinese Communist Party.
And in recent years, Chinese authorities have been encroaching on the
rights supposedly guaranteed to Hong Kongers under the “one country, two

Matters came to a head this April, when the Hong Kong government, under heavy pressure from Beijing, introduced legislation that would allow people accused of crimes against mainland China to be extradited. The proposal set off alarms among residents who know well that the mainland’s thoroughly politicized legal system is not to be trusted.

반중 시위대에 참여한 한 홍콩 시민은 뉴욕타임스와의 인터뷰에서 "시위대는 가두나 쇼핑몰, 공원 등을 점거하고 시위하는 과거의 전술에서 벗어날 필요가 있다"고 말했다. 뉴욕타임스는 홍콩에서 정기적으로 대규모 시위가 열렸었지만 시위대가 이렇게까지 공항으로 몰려든 건 이번이 처음이라고 전했다.
앞서 홍콩 시위대는 앞서 지난 9일부터 11일까지 사흘 연속 공항 터미널에서 침묵 연좌시위를 벌였다. 시위의 정당성을 알리는 홍보 활동 등 평화적인 시위였다. 그러나 11일 밤 시내 곳곳에서 시위대와 경찰이 충돌하는 과정에서 한 여성이 경찰이 쏜 ‘빈백건(bean bag gun, 알갱이 들어있는 주머니탄)’에 오른쪽 눈을 맞아 실명 위기라는 사실이 알려졌다.
이에 격화한 반정부 시위대는 다시 공항으로 몰려들었다. 이후 지난 13일까지 홍콩 국제공항은 시위대와 이를 진압하려는 경찰의 충돌로 항공편이 무더기로 결항되며 마비 사태를 겪었다.

International reaction
US President Donald Trump weighed in on the deteriorating situation on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. He claimed that
US intelligence showed "the Chinese Government is moving troops to the
Border with Hong Kong. Everyone should be calm and safe!" China already
keeps some troops garrisoned near the border.
A
senior US administration official said the US was monitoring the unrest
in Hong Kong and encouraged "all sides to remain calm, safe, and
peaceful."
"As the President has
said: 'they're looking for democracy and I think most people want
democracy,' " the official said. "Freedoms of expression and assembly
are core values that we share with the people of Hong Kong and these
freedoms should be protected."
UK
Foreign Minister Dominic Raab said he was concerned by "what's happening
in Hong Kong and the worrying pictures of clashes between police and
protesters at the airport."
"As I
said to Carrie Lam during my call last week, we condemn the violence and
encourage constructive dialogue to find a peaceful way forward," Raab
tweeted.
